      And who down voted this one? How can you down vote somebody’s observation — or aren’t we supposed to have observations anymore? My whole house if full of brash African artifacts. Too bad if you are offended by that.

          I would never refer to the indigenous peoples of the Americas as “Indians.” I teach Hispanic Civilization, remember?

        In some countries the Spanish word indio is a demeaning slur, and words like indigena or autoctono (or just the name of the group in question) are used instead. NAmericans who deal with indigenous people from Latin America quickly stop using the word indio (sometimes dropping Indian from their English as well although the connotations are completely different).
