And @David: I have a problem with cops being armed myself. But surely you can understand that it is far far better to limit weapons access to a small, regulated, and trained group of professionals than it is to allow an unregulated flood of highly lethal weapons?
Should they go against armed criminals or even somebody killing others with a knife weaponless? A knife is very dangerous too, let alone guns. Instead of cops, lets rename them into suicide corps.
Oh I think there are other ways that the police can be protected: stun guns, tranquilizers, billy clubs. I actually think that more harm than good comes out of an armed police force. Still, I’m a realist and know that the US will never disarm our police. I just believe in limitng access to weapons as much as possible. 🙂
