The movie has already served a good purpose, as you can see. And I found a not-horrible-at-all infant-raising book at the store. It struggles valiantly to keep ideology to the minimum and even acknowledges that the bonding theory (which states that there is some magical bonding that takes place in the first two days of a baby’s life) is all a load of baloney. I also discovered that bookstores place the 50 Shades trilogy into the romance section. Pornography, yes, but to imagine that somebody can find this swill to be romantic is beyond my powers.

You, folks, live in very enlightened places. 🙂 In my town’s only bookstore, we have an enormous section called “Bibles”. And it has many subdivisions: illustrated bibles, patriot bibles, etc. And there is a section for expensive ultra-presumptuous Bible covers.

The book states that different people have different experiences. Science has not been able to uncover any shared feelings of bonding among all parents on this planet. It is precisely because of this erroneous belief in bonding (a concept which was invneted recently and debunked even more recently) that so many women suffer from postpartum depression.
You have to be very careful with trying to guilt-trup pregnant women in this way.

It should, of course, properly be put under “mythology.” This is what more than one devout Xtian has told me it is, and I agree. The confusion caused by confusing myth, science, and history is extreme and unfortunate. All three are vitally important, although the myths I consider profoundly important are not the same as the monotheists.
