Benjamin Prado, my new favorite writer, says that there are people who are looking for somebody with whom they can be themselves and there are people who are looking for somebody with whom they can stop being themselves. I’m definitely in the latter category.

When I met N. what made him absolutely irresistible is that the image of myself that I saw in his eyes was a million times better than what I saw in the mirror (You understand that I’m not talking about physical appearance). I felt that he saw me as the person I could become, a happier, more complete, less messed up person. And that was very attractive. 🙂

The concept and reality of “the person I could become” is totally different from ” stopping being oneself”.“The person I could become” is an ever existing reality and implies growth, natural and spontaneous change and a process of dynamic fulfillment that might or might not reflect linearity. In contrast, stop being oneself is a non-existent reality. It only comes into existence at death. Rather, stop being oneself is actually death.
