I just read that Quebec City and Montreal are among the top 3 cities with the highest percentage of people living alone in Canada/US. It feels kind of counterintuitive to not want a warm body around when the weathers are so cold. But these are, of course, among the richest cities on the continent, so people can afford not to have roommates.

Umm, many of us who live alone, would like to share our space with a simpatico being, or at least we think we want to. Some have trouble connecting with other people, some have bad luck, and many live in apartments that don’t allow dogs or cats.

Everybody in Montreal seems to have at least one cat. It’s a city of cats. I remember trying to date in Montreal, but guys always worried about feeding their cats. Maybe that was a ploy to get me into their apartments, of course. 🙂

You’re right about the “feeding the cat” line. But it’s a good way to meet a lot of nice cats.
In my experience, when a person connects with your dog or cat, it definitely improves the possibilities for a good romance. On the other hand, bites and scratches can be a deal breaker. Hmm, that last sentence is open to interpretation.

Interesting. I spent a couple of months in Québec, and I found the people warm and friendly. If that dwelling alone statistic reflects anything more than the financial ability to do so, I’d be really surprised since the Québecois I met seemed so family-oriented. I was there seven years ago for a French immersion program, and I’m very much missing it. I’d love to get back and do it again (though I was..ahem..living alone in a little dorm room). 🙂
I didn’t get a clear sense of the demographic there. I wonder if a relatively larger people of older people (divorced, widowed) or young single adults could account for some of that. I haven’t taken the time to run down statistics.
