Blogging Suggestions

I know I have sorely tried my readers’  patience with a stream of posts on Ukraine.  I think we should all rally together to help me snap out of this fixation on Eastern Europe.

Please leave suggestions as to what you want me to write about, and I will try not to make it about Ukraine.

  1. I actually appreciate your Ukraine posts! 🙂 But I always like reading anything about higher ed on your blog. I also like when you post recipes! 🙂

  2. I *loved* your posts about Tony Judt’s “Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945.” May be, there are more insights you could share.

Of course, what she said about Jews and Israel was of especially high interest to me. I suppose she hasn’t talked about the state of Israel since it’s not in Europe, but may be there is more info somewhere.

Info not about Jews is welcome too. 🙂

      1. “Also what he writes about today’s Europe: immigration, EU, Jews again, etc.”

        – I’m still stuck in the endless 1948, but it’s bound to end sometime. 🙂

  3. I think the Ukraine posts are right on the Marx! So quite Stalin and start Russian out more stories for us. You’re really Putin it in perspective.

That’s as far as I can go right now. Maybe with a few more months of incompetence, we can discuss how Greecy the politicos are and how Hungary the Ivans are to restore their lost empire.

  5. I’m not weary of Ukrainian/Russian posts at all and you’re one of the few writing in English who know what you’re talking about, so there’s that.
I can understand if you’re worried about being typecast (or just weary of the real world situation which is pretty depressing) but I’m not tired of those posts as all, quite the contrary.

If you want more change of pace though, maybe more stuff related to writers in Spanish (and generally Spanish news and stuff).

Also I’d be interested in more stuff from the Judt book.

    1. I definitely don’t want to turn into one of those people who keep writing the same boring post with a slightly different wording for years and years. sadly, though, such bloggers seem to have an enormous number of followers.

Spanish news are a great idea.

  6. Please write occasionally about how we learn languages, and how we can learn new languages (if you have thoughts).

  7. I think you should write about whatever you feel like; writing about things you don’t care about is a sure fire way to choke off inspiration. While I haven’t been commenting lately; it’s not because I haven’t been reading, just lack of time and anything intelligent to add to the conversation. However, happily, I don’t need to be able to comment to find a topic interesting. 😀

  8. I agree completely with FD. Write about whatever is inspiring you at the moment. But just thought of a suggestion. What about finishing up some of the series you began? I know you had a “Types of Lover” (or called something like that) series which were really engaging. You also had a “Reader Appreciation” series that I loved. And I was already (very kindly) featured so this isn’t a self aggrandizing plug. It was just a fun series. I also really liked when you had the “How Well Do You Know Clarissa” quiz. So something along those lines would be fun. Anyway, just thought I would chime in (again!) 🙂 🙂

  9. I am interested in more posts on Ukraine, but would like something more than Putin is evil, Russians are lazy. Why hasn’t Ukraine figured out democracy and capitalism? Does it make sense to bail out their economy with so much corruption?
On a completely different note, you said once that immigrating was hard, both first to Canada and then to U.S. I can see that Ukraine to Canada would be a big adjustment, but I’m surprised Canada to U.S. was hard. What was difficult about each experience? How did you cope?

  10. I have always been interested in why the Yankee has to ride a macoroni. Is that some sexually perverse feature that applies to all? And furthermore…………..

  11. I love when you write about books, and wish there were more Classics Club updates. Also, languages. And I’m still curious to know about how you started going to the gym and in what ways that has changed you.

  13. Well I’m a bit late to the party, but I also appreciate your Russia & Ukraine posts – you’re the only human (rather than institutional) connection I have to the area, and it’s nice to hear at least one person pointing out that you’re really not supposed to simply annex territories that don’t belong to you…honestly, your sanity is needed.

I also enjoy hearing about things related to your work with the Spanish language and literature. 🙂
