Corruption in Spain

Is there anybody in Spain who hasn’t been contributing to the corruption?  Even the great opera singer Montserrat Caballe has pled guilty to defrauding the government.

The singer will pay a fine of 240,000 euro and serve a 6 – month prison sentence for the crime.

  1. My reading is that it’s a suspended sentence.

That said, I see it less as corruption than as vigorous tax vampires wringing every last euro they can get their greasy fingers on.

Agressively going after an ill 80 year old woman who’s done more for her country than any 100 tax collectors put together does not endear the buggers to me.

    1. Corruption is insane in Spain. Somebody needs to start saying that it’s not ok or this will never get better. I’m a great fan of Caballe and agree that she has done more for the country than most other people combined. But this just can’t go on.
