In Spain, the country where people are so into protesting that there were massive public manifestations in support of some stupid ebola-infected dog, the support for the victims of the Paris terror acts has been minimal.
Some Jews, Muslims and also a few French residents came out in Madrid in solidarity with the victims. There was maybe a hundred people protesting in a few other major cities. But that was about it.
What is the reason for it? Do Spanish feel it does not and will not concern them? Have they never met Islamic (*) terrorism yet?
(*) Not caused by Islam, but done by people who define themselves as Muslims.

Haven’t you heard of the Atocha bombings? It was one of the biggest acts of terror perpetrated by Al Qaeda.
But there have been so many protests in Spain in recent years, that I’m guessing people are jaded.

Good luck to anyone in finding much rhyme or reason to what the Spanish do in any particular situation.
My guess is a combination of protest fatigue, not wanting to protest on the behalf of others and some idea of having paid their terror protest dues.
Or it could be they can’t drag themselves away from some telenoval….

Manuel Fraga, founder of Spain’s Fraga party and right hand man to Spanish dictator Franco used the phrase “Spain is different” in a 1960’s tourism campaign. Some things don’t change.
