People have shown interest in how I waste the time that the state of Illinois pays me for. Since there is such an intense curiosity towards my schedule, I will keep sharing it until such time as I feel that the public education system is sufficiently vindicated.
Thursday, January 15.
8-9 – breakfast and reading the news.
9-11 – writing the proposal for a book chapter
11-12 – responding to work email and organizing a library workshop for my researchers.
12-14 – writing the proposal and submitting it.
14-15 – lunch.
15-17 – office hours.
17-20 – teaching the literature seminar.
20-21:30 – gym.
I’m on military time, as you can see.
Does anybody have any more criticisms of the public education system to offer?

Perhaps what was needed from your initial celebratory post was a description of non-literal language and how it differs from literal languge in intent and the meanings it can convey. As I recall, in your original post, you stated something to the effect that you would be lazing around all day reading books. You have to bear in mind that some people may not be used to sophisticated language and they may think that the sky is falling in.

EXACTLY. People have no idea how to read anything more complex than a tweet. And those same people have no idea what it takes to learn to read the way I do.
I have created for myself a very rarefied environment both in RL and on the blog. And it often makes me forget that this level of intellectual sophistication is inaccessible to the vast majority of people.

When do you travel to work; are your office hours virtual, or are you one of those very lucky souls with a short, easy commute? (Pure curiosity, as I often point out that working at home saves about 40 minutes of travel each way for, so it’s good for the planet as well as me…)

This is a very small town. Driving everywhere takes literally minutes. It’s 10 minutes from home to my office and it’s only that long because I’m a new driver and drive carefully. Sadly, there is absolutely no way of walking that short distance because it’s interstate highways.
