The departmental secretary is placing signs saying “Garbage” in different languages next to the trash cans and asked me to provide the Russian translation for the word “garbage.” I am sorely tempted to write “Putin” because the words are synonymous anyway.
When I worked at a university languages department, my door had a variety of signs in different languages for “No smoking”, such as “Gracias Por No Fumar”, “Nie Palic”, “Défense de Fumer SVP”. I later found out that this was part of a passive aggressive attempt to get the secretary to quit her three pack a day habit. Which didn’t work, but it was a pretty cool decoration.

People should know that guilt-tripping smokers into quitting is counterproductive. All it does is make them want to smoke more.

My first day on the job, the secretary told me that Jews controlled the World Bank and were responsible for every single war since the Sino-Japanese war, so I was actually hoping she’d keep smoking, until she croaked on the job. 🙂

Did she know you were Jewish? (Then or afterwards. )

She purposefully did that because I’m Jewish. It was her way of “humbling” me. I’m glad to be rid of that workplace.

I hate such people. And when that starts being possible in a workplace, that’s time to leave. It’s good that you got out of there!

Yes, I just verified.
WTF, WTF, WTF. I was never a huge fan but this is just insane. What is this, back to the 1990s?
For those who don’t know: Nemtsov is a very high-profile politician and dissident in Russia.
