I think that the whole National Teacher of the Year award is stupid and counterproductive. This is such a big country that nobody could even remotely manage to find the teacher most deserving of the award. The award will make one person happy and thousands of people feel like they are being told that they are not good enough.

Only if you care enough to pay attention to these kind of awards… no award given to another person should make you feel like you should become a better teacher. Each professor knows where he or she stands, or at least, they should, don’t you think?
