After an insane amount of time spent dithering, I finally bought my ticket.

From July 10 to July 14, I will be staying in Oxford, and then from July 14 to July 16, I will be in London at a yet undecided location.

I’m very dedicated to the goal of enjoying the UK this time around. A visit to the Globe theater that somebody suggested on the blog sounds like a brilliant idea. I checked the website, and it seems like Richard II will be on. Of course, I’d have preferred a different Richard but still.

Get a cushion. The seats at the theatre will break your ass!

Maybe plan in some park time as well – I’d always recommend Kew Gardens, myself, but any of the London Parks provide green spaces and a change of pace from the city streets which definitely make a visit more fun, and of course Kew costs money to get in whilst many of the others are free!

  I’m trying to steer Clarissa toward the area around Marylebone Road and Regent’s Park, actually, since she’ll likely need to make railway connections at Paddington, in addition to what I’d mentioned about the British Library and the Wellcome Library …

Standing at the Globe is cheap and can be more comfortable than sitting. If you sit, the £1 cushion is money well spent. I love Richard II! If you’d rather see the authentic indoor theatre experience — the Sam Wanamaker theatre is an attempt to replicate the Blackfriars Theatre from the Jacobean period. Either way, should be awesome. Enjoy!!

The Globe Theatre is a great experience, although it might be a good idea to book your ticket well in advance, they sell out really quickly when the weather’s looking good – and yes, you’ll need a cushion.

Regent’s Park is great, part of it houses London Zoo which is expensive, but you can see a number of the animals from outside, especially wolves and giraffe.

The British Museum is great, although my favourite of the London Museums is the Natural History Museum – not only a huge variety of exhibits on the natural world, but also the best Victorian architecture in London! Nearest underground station is South Kensington.
