Clothes in Damages

One thing that bugs me about Damages is Glenn Close’s wardrobe. Why do they dress her so ugly? These clothes might look great on a different woman but on Glenn Close they look hideous. If you get the only talented actress in Hollywood to star in your show, could you at least find a good stylist?

The clothes in the show are used to send a message but in a very inelegant, “let me pound you over your head and then pound some more” way. Glenn Close is dressed to look like a man, Rose Byrne is dressed like a nun, the Katie character looks all hippy-dippy in the extreme. A little bit of subtlety would go a long way to make the show more watchable.

The clothing is supposed to further the purpose of typecasting. If the casting directors and the costumer are doing their jobs, the actors barely have to act because the audiences will fill in the blanks.
;p

So Frank Fleming is no Janie Bryant, apparently.

  I know everybody does it but this is just such an obvious direct way to do it that it detracts from the viewing experience.

    You realise that this sort of pandering type-casting simply demands being made fun of through the same means, especially in the form of kid dramas …
    
    [and with that, the Keystone Kops are now penguins with badges on their backsides, just so when they’re asked to “show us their badges”, they have to show their backsides to the audience, allowing the “bad guys” to get away again …] 🙂
