You know what’s a real abomination? Olive oil in plastic bottles.
And manufacturers know that they are doing something very wrong, so they mask the plastic bottle as much as they can. I usually have to palpate up to 15 bottles until I find a glass one.
Of course, we have a specialty olive oil store in town that sells real olive oil in real glass bottles made out of darkened glass, but I can only afford to go there every 3 months.
Get a high quality olive oil, the kind that comes in a a 6+ liter tin can, and use an oil dispensing bottle with a pourer (with a top flap to minimize any oxidation).

I still prefer buying olive oil in glass bottles–darkened, of course….

Other than aesthetics, what’s the problem with olive oil in plastic bottles? Does the plastic affect the taste, or does the oil go bad more quickly?

Both! The taste is different and the oil is more likely to acquire a bitter taste. In terms of taste, it’s the same difference as drinking good wine from a paper cup or a glass.
