Revisions

The editors of my edited volume #1 got back to me with suggested revisions. The revisions are exactly what I anticipated. The paragraph they say should be removed is the one I knew should not be there this entire time. The sentence the editors suggest to move to the beginning always felt like it should be at the beginning. And so on. The question arises as to why I didn’t do all this to begin with.

Stubborn old cow.

  1. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a stubborn old cow! It’s not always easy to see exactly what edits are necessary when you’ve just written something.

I do often find I’m too close to my writing, it either needs another person to point the problems out, or I need to put the thing aside for at least two months before I can see them for myself. Needless to say I don’t usually have two months leeway.

Also I can get attached to a certain turn of phrase or paragraph and be reluctant to remove them, even when they are obsolete, otiose or even just pain daft!
