Poll: Who Should Be President?

Time for a new poll, everybody! In alphabetical order of their last names, here are the current candidates. Which one should be President? I’m very curious to see what the political distribution of our readership is.

I will make this poll sticky for a while, so scroll down for new posts.

  1. There’s a list? Where?

    I propose a write-in vote for Lucifer — he’s not the American politician you need, but he’s the American politician you deserve.

    [… besides, some of the other candidates work for him, and I’m tired of dealing with henchmen …] 🙂

          1. It’s a malevolent entity created by H. P. Lovecraft that has become quite iconic.
            If you enjoy horror stories, you can try reading “The Call of Cthulhu” 😀

          2. I think you can find out all you need to know, pop-cultural wise, just from reading it up on Wikipedia. That may even be the better source, since Cthulhu hasn’t entered the mainstream without being changed.

            If that leaves you curious, the typical collection of H.P. Lovecraft short stories including all the important classics is like 250 pages or so.

            1. Can’t help you there — I lost touch with the people I knew at Miskatonic University after they decided they were going to leave their last home of Massachusetts …

              The chancellor muttered something about “not knowing that possessing silver bullets without a licence was illegal” before they whisked him away in handcuffs.

          A Republican would want whoever gets the party’s nomination to defeat the Democratic candidate and win the Presidency. If Cruz gets the nomination, that means supporting Cruz in the general election, even if you don’t agree with all his views (and didn’t vote for him in the primary election).

          1. I know there are people who will vote for Cruz because they don’t have a choice. But I don’t think such people will be enthusiastic enough about him to vote for him in polls in early April.

  4. Too bad a bunch of Cruz and Sanders nuts (not saying all who voted for them, but clearly most) stampeded over, thinking there was some value in manipulating the results. Losers. Wish you could somehow make it just for your real blog readers.

  5. A poll can be gamed. Now I’m curious as to the lurkers who are Cruz-fans who care.about this poll enough to game it but not down vote Cruz posts.

    I know of at least one Trump fan who’s commented. Give it some more time.

  6. This Internet poll is supposed to allow only one vote from a specific computer IP address, but you can trick it into accepting multiple votes by closing your Internet connection, dumping your server’s Internet cache, and then logging back in to vote again.

    It’s possible that some people have done that here to run up the Cruz, Sanders, and Trump count — although I can’t imagine what the hell they think they’re proving by coming to this specific website to do it.

      1. Well given that every major party candidate except HRC keeps talking about their polls and hypothetical matchups in polls ad nauseum, why wouldn’t they try to game them?
        “My polls are awesome, my polls are huge and impressive like my long fingers”
        “My polls show I can defeat Clinton better than Trump”
        “My polls show I beat Trump harder than Clinton does”
        “My polls show I clean the Democratic party candidate’s clock and I’m and adult why won’t you pick me? Me!”

          Still, WHY would anybody go to the trouble of gaming a single isolated poll on a politically insignificant website like this one? (I’m not trying to insult Clarissa’s blog, but its overall theme isn’t about politics, and I don’t think either national party, or any of the candidates’ lackeys, check here daily to determine the political pulse of the voters.)

    Ego. I never said it was a good use of their time. Maybe it’s a weird convoluted way of expressing group allegiance. :-p “I’m gonna defend my candidate’s honor by making this poll come out on top for my candidate. That’ll show Clarissa!”

    1. Trolls troll because they are idiots and have nothing better to do with their useless lives. I’ve had many of these losers come to the blog over the years. But this poll was trolled by a single person.

          • I see how many people visited the post. There was no sudden influx of visitors, no links to the poll.

          • No, I have no information about the poll itself. But I see the visitor stats for the blog and if there are any backlinks.

    1. I figured out why I can’t see your poll …

      I have a privacy and security suite that takes care of some of the more annoying parts of the Internet, and one of its features is that it quietly removes social media links, up/down votes, and so forth.

      And, of course, apparently it does the same thing with polls.

      I didn’t remember that comments on here actually have up/down vote buttons because I rarely ever see them. 🙂

            She lost the 2008 primaries because of her support for something that happened overseas.

            If foreign affairs bores the voters, why is she so gung ho about her Israel support? She never misses an opportunity to tell the voters how Obama is doing it all wrong and she is the greatest friend to that country.

              • Let’s not be naive. Nobody cared about Iraq. Voters cared that American soldiers died. But as long as no American soldiers are involved, nobody cares.

          1. Agreed. The narrative now is that Sanders flubbed the numbers, how ignorant of him. When the message should be that killing “just” 2000 people instead of 10000 is, you know, not cool.

              • Exactly. And then it becomes very easy to reduce the subject to “Nobody knows what’s happening over there, so why should I care?” I saw this happen many times in regards to Ukraine.

            • Absolutely. I want a candidate to say “Russia invaded Ukraine.” But if somebody said, “Russia invaded Ukraine and occupied a quarter of its territory”, I will damn that idiot. Because the exaggeration is worse than saying nothing. It kills even the hope that anybody might get interested in the issue.
