Dear Fear

Instead of addressing the director of the university press where I submitted my manuscript as “Dear Greg”, I addressed him as “Fear Greg.” Twice. I don’t think I need to get back in touch with my analyst to interpret the meaning of this slip.

  1. I am skeptical. It is really east to hit a key adjacent to one you intend if you are typing quickly. At least I know this is true for me. If you had typed “Bear Greg” twice, I would agree it was significant. But D and F are side by side on the keyboard, and no one has perfect co-ordination. My finger dexterity is better than most people’s, and I still do this kind of thing once in a while. This is why I proofread fanatically.

(Hoping there are no typos in this post…)

    1. That’s the thing: these were very short emails and I proofread them several times. But I still didn’t notice the mistake at the time. If it were just a typo, surely I would have noticed it then.
