Every August I fall sick. For decades, literally. And it’s always the same stupid cold. So annoying.

It is the students. They are bringing in microbes from all over the world. Your body has no immunity to viruses from China.

Problem is, we don’t have any international students and I was just as ill last August when I wasn’t teaching.

It is the stars. August started out with the “Dog Days of Summer.”

You think the powers that be don’t know when you hate them?

    Arf, lady!

It is you. Quoting Clarissa, the cause of every illness is psychological. Which means the cold signals the hidden reluctance to return to work after an amazing vacation.

On another topic, two pieces of nice news from Israel:

A Christian Arab has been nominated to become the legal advisor to the Ministry of Development in the Periphery, the Negev and the Galilee, making him the first Arab ever to occupy the position of a legal advisor in a government office.

    AND

In a first for an Ethiopian scholar, the Ministry of Education has added a short story written by an Ethiopian author to the upcoming literature curriculum of the new school year; ‘Every Jewish community is unique and it is very important to give expression to the cultural characteristics and experiences of each community.’

The book is the story of Girma Mengistu, a communications professor, who immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia. It describes with humor and drama the journey of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, the yearning to see Jerusalem, and the difficulties in the process of absorption in Israel.

But it happened last year, too. And I wasn’t returning to work. Must be something else.

You might be quite allergic to ragweed. ‘Tis the plant of late summer/early fall. If you go to pollen.com you will see the count is really high in your area right now. I’d load myself with Zyrtec and consider steroid nose drops like Flonase.
