Hey, folks, did you hear that in some places there is such a thing as “school lottery”? Next to immigration lottery, it’s probably the dumbest idea out there.

I have relatives who go screwed out of a decent high school education because of a system similar to this. It really messed most of them up for a while. The whole reason the family had moved where they did was so their kids wouldn’t have to go through that. And of course the lottery-like system ensured that they did, anyway.
