I am not even in Texas yet but I’ve already spotted 2 people in cowboy boots. The horror. Cowboy hats can’t be far behind.

Woe be unto me.

If you can’t beat them, join them. Go try on some boots and hats — they are actually fun!

Hey! I’ve worn my share of cowboy boots and hats! It’s a national costume/folk clothing that is remarkably durable. Show a little respect!

(Though Houston is not really cowboy country, you need to get more inland for that.)

Really? 🤗🤗🤗 OK, this helps. It’s definitely easier when you know somebody from the cowboy costume community.

Familiarity is the key to tolerance.

To be fair (to myself) I never wore boots or the hat just to wear them, it was when I was around horses. My mother was a horse person and I grew up horseback riding (western pleasure, which is the cowboy looking style). I also had cousins who were real cowboys (managing cattle, rodeoing) but I never got into that.

The boots really work better than anything else on a western saddle and the hat is also pretty practical in all kinds of different weather. Baseball caps work well enough too but had connotations of farming rather than riding at the time.

I didn’t dress like that going around town but it was practical when giving riding lessons (or just riding or tending to the horses).

Well, that’s a different thing altogether. I’m weirded out by the costume being worn as regular clothing.

I like cowboys boots too. But right now, the sight of them–especially in Texas–would make me sick to my stomach.

Believe it or not, people living in different regions of the U.S. actually wear regional clothing. 🙂

You’ll probably see some men wearing bolo ties as well, since they’re the official state tie of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Dreidel! I’ve missed you, my fellow Hillary supporter.

Who won Arizona, by the way?

      And what are bolo ties??

Bolo ties (only the center looks authentic, the other two look suspicously hipsterish).

        “Who won Arizona?”

Trump is leading Hillary by about 5%, but the race still hasn’t officially been called. At the point, it doesn’t matter.

John McCain was re-elected; infamous sheriff Joe Arpaio wasn’t. The initiative to legalize recreational marijuana was defeated.

At least, we were close. There is hope for Arizona after all.

Gotta say, I have to admire Dreidel’s restraint. I was expecting him to rub this victory in our faces, bigly!

He didn’t want Trump to win. Deep inside, he didn’t want it. He’s like our collective conservative grandpa. ☺

Yes. Thank you Dreidel for not gloating. I have a strnge soft spot for you and your lack of celebration proves it. 🙂

But not even Dreidel voted for Trump. It’s only truly sad sacks that see this win as some sort of victory for anything. Like a commenter who I lost my temper on earlier this morning–and losing my temper isn’t really my style. I’m trying to figure out if I’m sorry about that or not.

I really am an optimistic person generally. In uy department, I’m actually known for my optimism. And I’m so sad and devastated. As the day goes on and his win is really sinking in, my eyes just keep welling with tears. I’m so shook up and saddened.

A little secret: reader Matt actually enjoys being barked at on regular occasions so don’t feel bad about that.

I sat down to eat at a restaurant here in Houston and discovered that there is a TV screen built into the booth that one isn’t allowed to turn off. So I’m stuck watching Paul Ryan gloat on Fox. I ended up ordering a cocktail which is extremely rare for me.

That’s funny. I order cocktails but rarely lose my temper on line. You lose your temper online but rarely order cocktails. It seems that you and I are melding into on disgruntled entity. 😉

the cocktail was a bust. I only managed a half before getting all woozy.
