Chis Hedges used to be intelligent but it seems like he fell and hit his head on a concrete slab. Otherwise, he couldn’t have produced this completely insane piece. I got to “half the country lives in poverty” and stopped reading because there is a limit on how much shamelessness I can stomach. These people. What a disgrace.
I hope this New Yorker’s manifesto is a joke. Who could have guessed that in the wake of Trump getting elected it’s his opponents that would behave like total freaks.
And just one more example of a person who is beyond clueless: “We know that 10-20% of the population is doing pretty well. The rest are being pushed down into the working poor. The middle class is vanishing. Life expectancy for white Americans is going down, due to alcoholism, drug use and suicide. That’s what killed the Russians after the USSR collapsed, along with dire poverty and the failure of the government to function.” You’ve truly got to be a shitty person to write this kind of thing. Give her a moment and she’ll compare herself to the victims of Rwandan genocide because she broke her fingernail.
The Trump administration will be hawkish. Well, what a shocker! How completely unexpected for everybody who has never set foot on this planet.
I suspect this was a secret Trump voter because she’s enjoying it too damn much: “I’ve swung from crying to numbness, from anger that feels helpful and focused and productive to frozenness, and back all over again. I’ve snapped at humans I love, and have wanted nothing more than to retreat into their arms, or to take them into mine.” And the Oscar goes to. . . some dumb broad on Feministing.
Natural parenting is unnatural.
The murderous 39-week rule should finally go.
A Russian dissident wrote a refreshingly intelligent post on Trump but it’s in Russian.
Is there a greater tragedy than having a parent who gets off on scaring you?
An academic insists that Canada is to blame for him being a total snowflake.
Hmm… in my humble opinion public ostracism of a politician, including president-elect, is within the realm of acceptable. However, they lost me when they suggested extending it to Trump’s relatives including young children.
As for visitors to Canada having to preemptively announce themselves – this was recommended (not obligatory) already in spring. Took two minutes (well, more than two minutes, because I had to ask my mother’s passport number). Thus, it has no relation whatsoever to Trump’s future policies.

Clarissa, you’re embarrassingly bad at reading these sources you link.
I’ve been trying for a few years now to decide why that is. Obviously you have the ability to read English — at first I thought it was that, to be honest. I thought, well, Clarissa is working in a language that’s not her first language, maybe she just can’t read well enough to understand the source. But that’s not it.
Then I thought maybe you were deliberately misrepresenting the sources, for some malicious reason of your own. It’s true that most of the sources you misrepresent are women.
Now I think you’re just not being intellectually honest. You read these sources too quickly, see some sentence in them — or sometimes just a single word — which is a red flag to you, and go into attack mode.
The problem is, your readers have the ability to link through to the sources, or at least your intellectually honest readers do. We can see that you are not reading the sources correctly. You call people shitty; you say they are freaks. We can see that you are the intellectual shit. We can see that you are the freak.
For what it is worth, Eleanor Arnason is a wonderful artist, and a wonderful human being. She is an honest and forthright intellectual. She would never treat another human being the way you have treated her. You should be ashamed of yourself.

It would only make sense for you to hang out at the blog of the wonderful human being in question, then. Yet I can’t get rid of you no matter what I do. Is there any chance at all that you finally stop torturing yourself and rejoin the wonderful being elsewhere?

That Maureen Herman letter is perfect. The incredibly controlling and sickly-sweet condescending tone. She acts as though her daughter were not quite bright. This is the precise technique of my mother — terrify and shut up while also claiming all knowingness and all controllingness, and looking liberal so everyone praises her and the child is isolated. They must have a convention somewhere to come up with these techniques, the playbook is so clear

I’m glad mine were nowhere near competent enough to apply these techniques. It just gets me ridiculously angry, you know, to see an adult play holier-than-thou about a kid’s suffering that they caused. The most charitable interpretation of this bullshit is that they’re so deluded they think their cause will automatically win. Which is seriously deluded.

Arabs, as usual:
Dozens of firefighting teams, with the aid of airtankers, work to put out fires amid strong winds and dry weather conditions
…
As the dry weather and strong winds are expected to continue on Thursday as well, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan have decided to ask Cyprus, Greece and Italy—and considering asking Turkey as well—for additional firefighting planes as a precaution.
…
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan stipulated the multiple fires could be the result of arson. “It’s beginning to appear—in light of the multiple fire locations—that arson could be the cause of some of the fires. The police and the Fire Department will investigate,” he wrote on Twitter. “I ask the public to remain vigilant and report any case of suspected arson and any blaze to the police and the Fire Department, mostly in the coming couple of days due to the dry weather.”

If you are interested in Israel a bit, may be you do want to know.
Have you truly missed the implied connection to Arabs? It is here: “Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan stipulated the multiple fires could be the result of arson”.
Almost every year, Israel suffers from Arab arsonists. One example from 2010:
Two Israeli-Arab teenagers from Nazareth have been arrested for attempting to spread the Carmel fire by setting fires in Ilut.
…
Several smaller fires broke out as rescue workers battled the Carmel fire, and police suspect a coordinated arson effort. Fires were reported near Basmat Tivon, Usafiya, and the northern border.

Read today:
The Shin Bet is investigating the suspicion that the fires that broke out in Haifa were the result of nationalistically-motivated arson.
Meanwhile, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan instructed the police to monitor social media in an effort to identify those inciting to arson.
