Do “nighttime” cold medications contain some sort of a sleeping aid? I took a nighttime Theraflu yesterday and it was the weirdest thing ever. It robbed me of my soul and knocked me right out. Creepy shit.

A lot of antihistamines contain ingredients that have sedative side effects, some more extreme than others. The “daytime” formulations contain caffeine to counteract these effects. You’ve tested one drug. You need to try others to find out which ones your body can tolerate. Or try non-pharma solutions like tea, vaporizers and the strips that widen nasal passages.

Yes, there are non soporific such preparations. The one that comes to mind from about 30 years or so ago is Sudafed.
