Dvaputin

A touch of humor for my Russian-speaking readers. Yesterday, as you know, was the anniversary of Rasputin’s assassination. Sorry, everybody else, it’s too long to explain.

And yes, it’s an actual prianik.

  1. “it’s too long to explain”

    Not for me!

ras sounds like raz (раз) which means ‘(one) time, once’ (as opposed to ‘twice’)

It’s often used instead of ‘one’ in counting

So ‘rasputin dvaputin’ sounds like ‘once putin, twice putin’.

prianik is gingerbread, often decorated with stuff that looks like frosting but is hard and will break your teeth if you’re not careful…. the gingerbread is none the too soft either

Are the pictures edible or do they have to be taken off?

    1. Great explanation, thank you.

I think the pictures are to be taken off. Even if they were edible, one is very likely to have indigestion after consuming both Putins. 🙂
