Bye-bye Sanctions

Ah, folks, did you see the Trump / Putin nuclear weapons comments? Trump didn’t lose any time in trying to remove sanctions on Russia. We will soon hear that removing the sanctions and recognizing the Crimea as Russian is the only way to prevent a nuclear war and Trump saved us all from a nuclear catastrophe by removing sanctions.

“Let me scare you with nukes into complete compliance ” is a strategy that Putin has used so often that it’s boring.

  1. No.

I read that tweet as that he really doesn’t believe in SALT-1-3, START 1-3 or New START. It’s an object lesson in why every country with an army is trying to get nukes and will never give them up once they have them. Everyone remembers what the US did in World War II, and nobody forgets. The US insistence that everyone disarm or slow the spread of nukes always sounds hollow to other nations, even with a President (elect) who acts like they’re on an even keel in public.
One huge problem is that others can’t afford to base their actions on the idea he’s play acting some persona because it sounds good to some section of voters. You just heard a whole bunch of nations re-starting or starting their nuke program right now.

    1. Putin isn’t going to invade a NATO country, no matter who the US President is.

But Ukraine and other regional non-NATO countries should be very worried.

    1. And he is absolutely right. This is something I’ve been observing for a while now. Putin’s vision is based on fierce trickle-down, anti-progressive taxation, anti-union, anti-reproductive rights, anti-LGBT, pro-state religion, pro-oligarchy, anti-immigrant sentiment, and racism. Sound at all familiar?

This is why it’s been driving me nuts that some of my Liberal friends honestly think that Putin offers some sort of an alternative to US capitalism. Yes, it’s an alternative, but from the far right.
