Distractions

As if it weren’t enough that at this airport restaurant there is an iPad on each table that keeps flashing in front of my eyes and a bunch of huge TVs to distract me from my reading of a paper book with actual pages, there are also groups of men who scream like they are possessed while watching a football game.

And this was the quietest, most decent place here. As much as I love Philadelphia, its airport stinks.

You should totally say in a very loud voice:

“Excuse me kind sirs, but I am a tenured professor of literature and I find your primitive howling about the low rent homoerotic display known as “foot ball” to be extremely vexing! I must request that you kindly attempt to behave in a slightly more civilized manner in the presence of your intellectual superior!”

That would quiet every down in a hurry. Guaranteed!

I’d much rather day all that to the dang iPad. What an annoying idea to place one at each table.

I covered it by propping my book against it. But all the other tables had them, too! It’s impossible not to have them in the peripheral vision.

          At least, they are noiseless.

Aren’t ALL public and commercial places pretty much the same way?
The way you’re often “the only actual customer/patron/passenger” while everyone else around you seem to be “shareholders” and “co-owners” of the given establishment?
