Formalistic

People are so formalistic. I suggested that during the Merit Review we give all our colleagues the rankings they gave themselves and avoid dragging it out in a meeting. There is no merit pay, so this is all just an empty formality. Besides, people gave themselves very fair and realistic rankings. But no, we have to go through the whole charade anyway. Bleh.

Alternate lazy way of doing it. If you disagree with their ranking for whatever reason, you submit a review. If you agree, you just say you agree. Collect the results in a pile divorced from names and other identifying information. Make a political statement for each person stating that at the time the review was completed, no budget was available for merit pay. With luck the parroted repetitive language makes it through people’s skulls and you can use it as a basis for raises when and if such merit pay becomes available. :/
