Seconded.
What works for me, when I absolutely have to work on something but don’t want to, is to play loud music through my headphones. While apparently distracting to most people, this is incredibly calming and focusing in my case.

I’m very similar :-). I turn on Russian TV and it helps me work.

Oh my Gosh. Tell me about it! (I’m in the middle of a project that’s proving very difficult–partly because it represents a bit a turn from my cultivated academic specialties.) I find starting the most difficult. Just opening up a blank Word document and looking at the wordless screen and knowing that somehow these pages must be filled with my own words almost overwhelms me when I’m getting started. Hahaha.
