I don’t care what Bush Jr said, I don’t care who wrote the words for him, and I don’t care what those words are. I’m shocked and horrified that people are eager to proclaim that he’s not so bad after all and that we were all mistaken to detest him, and at least he’s decent. (I could give a ton of links to progressive bloggers who say this shit but I don’t want to give them traffic. I’ll do it, though, if people somehow failed to miss the outpouring of Bush love and need proof).

I’m not going to forget the global economic crisis or the Iraq War that this outlandishly stupid and dishonest piece of work engineered for us. The academic job market in my field is still completely devastated after the collapse of 2007. And this all happened after this fellow robbed the country for 8 years and slathered dishonest pseudo-religious slogans on top. Fuck him and fuck those who are glorifying him in order to engage in their Trump obsession.

    He gets invited to talk shows, and gets presented as a lovable grandpa who picked up painting in his retirement.

    It’s not just him, though. All the neo-cons who made the war happen are now best friends with democrats because they claim to be anti-Trump.

    This is why voters get cynical. You can’t be talking about ‘evil’ Bush or ‘evil’ Romney who’ll starve grannies, and then give speeches a few years later wishing they were president. It tells you politics is just a game for them.

    This is Nancy Fucking Pelosi:

      I don’t understand why it’s so hard to conclude that Trump is a disaster – which he clearly is – without glorifying Bush. How can people forget so fast, especially since we still live with the disastrous consequences of the Bush era?

      Hell, there wouldn’t be Trump now if Bush hadn’t paved the way.

    If Bush proves in the future that he changed, we should remember his recent speech too. We should not tolerate excuses, but sometimes people change for the better. Let’s see:-)

          Spare me your wooly headed platitudes about “forgiveness” and “change.” We are lowering the bar for decent human behavior every single day so thickheaded idiots can clamber over it and demand applause.
          What “good” do you think this speech did? Nothing! What “change” did you see in evidence? Nothing! Remember this man’s candidate in the race was his brother, who helped fuck up voting processes in his state with an assist from SCOTUS judges appointed by his father and his father’s boss so he could win the Presidency. He’d be all for this shit if it were Jeb.

          Just because it gives me warm fuzzies to see someone take up painting late in life doesn’t erase any of the damage he did.

          That man was the POTUS. I can never run for POTUS. He has far more power to perpetuate “his bad” than I do. I am not responsible for his “bad” by refusing to grant absolution he hasn’t even asked for. Go guilt someone else with your false equivalencies and neti-pot your brain with fresh mountain water while you’re at it.

    Jennifer Rubin, David Frum, Max Boot. These are heinous people. David Frum, speechwriter for Bush, coined the term ‘axis of evil’. Max Boot wants a war with Russia and North Korea right now.

    And they get to rehabilitate their image as ‘principled Republicans’ just because they tweet once in a while about how rude Trump is.

      And then they take it all back 2 seconds later because the reality is they like Trump. They just fake outrage when it seems convenient. But they totally dig him. Frum is a total Trump fan, no matter what he says to deny it.

      Also Iran, but that goes without saying. You don’t get admission to that club without expressing a passionate desire for war with Iran.

    You forget the recession that occurred right on the heels of the terrorist attack of which he had good intelligence that he ignored! Or the shameful way in which he got into office! Or the hurricane response he botched!

    Everyone “forgets” the way the international community practically anointed Obama for being “not Bush” because he was so terrible.

    The anti-Trump conservatives do not like Trump’s style. That’s it. They don’t actually object to any of his policies. You’re supposed to dog whistle, not bullhorn!
