A New Skill

When my sister was here in December, she taught me how to order at the Starbucks drive-thru window. I resisted because it all seemed very complex but she practically forced me to do it. And now, of course, I’m addicted to the process if not the product (I always feel like the instant coffee I have at home tastes the best). But I feel cooler than the North Pole ordering my drive-thru coffee and arriving at work at 7:30 am.

This is a skill that needs to be taught? (They have their own size terminology but other than that it’s straightforward.)
    What is your regular order?

    • The main mystery was what object I needed to talk to. The first time I tried it, I addressed the menu board 15 feet away from the actual microphone. This was embarrassing. Then I tried to give the microphone my credit card. Which it didn’t know how to take. Then I finally got to the actual window and forgot to roll my own window down. So yeah, it’s not that easy. And all I order is a regular coffee. Very rarely a latte. And now a snowman cookie when I’m there with Klara.

Yes, I’ve sometimes not come close enough to the speaker.

I’ve done that too. I realized I forgot within a half second.

If for some reason you want only 8 oz of a hot drink, just ask for the “short” [name of drink]. It ‘s not listed on the menu. I do that because that’s as much I as drink before it becomes cold.

They don’t have that functionality because nobody wants to deal with a card getting stuck in the drive-through line or thieves attaching skimmers. Plus the less places people have to stick hands out through a window the better. Weirdly, when I’m impatient enough to even try a drive through I get annoyed by how long it takes! Then again, I don’t have to unbuckle/rebuckle a car seat.

          • That’s really great advice. Thank you, I had no idea.
