A French court has ordered far-right leader Marine Le Pen to undergo psychiatric tests as part of an inquiry into her sharing images of Islamic State group atrocities.
It is always first tried on the truly unsavory characters. I mean, who wants to defend this despicable broad? She stinks.
But once the practice is normalized, it can be used against anybody.

Apparently he didn’t even need to register as a sex offender despite telling the victim that he needed her to think she was going to die in order for him to be sexually fulfilled. But, you know, he lost his job, poor guy. Ugh.

What’s also really alarming, is the modern (very infantile) idea that any reference to something is approval. I’m fairly sure that whatever her failings, Le Pen is not a supporter of the Islamic State – but graphic evidence of the Islamic State’s primitive bloodthirsty savagery is taken as de facto approval (unless I misunderstand and the French court is supporting the Islamic State and essentially trying to punish Le Pen for blasphemy….).

From what I understand, the idea is that she tried to incite hatred towards a group with these postings. Plus, the images are graphic and upsetting, so she must be crazy to post something that can traumatize people.

Wait, is hating ISIS forbidden in France now? I thought this time it was clearly against ISIS, not Muslims in general, since Le Pen “posted the images … in response to a journalist who drew a comparison between IS and her party.”
I think it is, ironically, a case of other people equating between ISIS and Muslims in their heads, so any images showing IS’s crimes enter under “must not show because of sensitivity to Muslims” umbrella.

Guess all Western war photographers are going to find themselves out of job soon, if the approach spreads.
Ironically, I’ve recently read (semi-?)academic analysis of moral dilemmas inherent in war photography – whether it’s mainly titillation of progressively less sensitive consumers or also a vehicle of change through raising awareness. If upsetting images become illegal, academics will not have to think about such complex issues. 🙂

The bit regarding minors reminded me of a new Russian law forbidding propaganda of homosexuality.
The beauty of those laws is that anything and everything may be “viewed by a minor” or interpreted as propaganda of … whatever you want, practically.
