I’m so ready to be in Spain that an Ethiopian waitress at the airport cafe in St Louis asked me if I’m Spanish. I wasn’t reading in Spanish or carrying a flag. Neither was I exuberant, gregarious, or particularly friendly. And I left a great trip.
I probably developed a Spanish accent out of sheer anticipation, that’s why.
Maybe she saw your boarding pass? In Europe anytime you buy something in an international airport they want t see your boarding pass…

Not me. I get into a cab, give the address of where I’m going to the driver, and he responds with a very enthusiastic and a tad patronizing: “aww, your Spanish is so good”. Flashbacks to first years of life in Canada. 😉
