Pravda was a lot less shameless. But that’s because there wasn’t a single person in the USSR who was as intellectually primitive as the readers of The Washington Post:
Seriously, how do people who read these articles manage not to die of embarrassment?
I remember watching an old lecture from the 1980s or something where a man from the USSR was explaining how subversion worked, and why it was important to subvert and undermine the institutions of an enemy nation.
I don’t know about whether that is being done to the USA on purpose, but it does match what the man was saying, even by coincidence.

This is OT, but is more broadly on topic. Student, about academic article read: “It is clear the author wants you, the reader, to use this information, after the article is over.” After it is “over.” Interesting. But I see what they mean: author does not just care about selling article, etc., or does not care about that, wants to communicate.

They should also read Coming of Age in Mississippi, Anne Moody, which I read belatedly. It is of course good on MS, Black life then, civil rights, etc., but what is also done with verve in it is family relations, her rebellion against her parents, her parents’ internalization of things as they were, her need to reject that even though it was true, etc. Shoot me and I am not saying the macro-political things in this female bildungsroman aren’t real, they are very real, it’s just that also, at this intimate level, there are these parents and the world they give to deal with.

As a US teen in the 1950’s, I followed carefully copies of Pravda and always listened to Radio Moscow from 1950 to 1960. I was never taken in by these media from the Soviet Union, as I had a good knowledge of the the many evils carried out by the Commissars in that nation. Like almost every American at that time, including teens and college students, I was deeply patriotic and loved our county. I did note this, the Soviet media always talked lovingly, glowingly, and patriotically about their nation: not like our media today and the Democratic party which promotes hatred and vitriol about our nation. This is a very sad situation: as Lincoln said so eloquently: “A nation divided against itself can not stand.” However, I am grateful for the incredible courage and sacrifices of the Red Army during WWII in defeating the Nazis. I salute them ! ( I studied Russian in 1959 with a Red Army Colonel who has escaped to the USA.)

There were plenty of white people in South Africa who claimed that black people benefited from apartheid. I never met a black person who agreed with that claim.
Pravda had to convince its readers that they were benefiting. The Washington Post has the much easier task of convincing its readers that someone else is benefiting.

A lot of folks are believers in the paranormal and metaphysical, so it’s not a long shot as to why some might actually see the logic in these headlines
….maybe President Biden is some sort of “new messiah for a new age” ….????…..
