Today, by the way, is my first anniversary of “two weeks to flatten the curve.” Appropriately, I’m going to get my taxes done to celebrate. The accountant is a wonderful person. We’ve been with her for years. Unfortunately, she’s an MSNBC watcher. While I could put up with her “Trump is destroying democracy” rants*, it will be a lot harder to keep silent when she starts COVID-ranting. But we’ve figured out a way to do the taxes without involving N, who suffers hellish tortures when somebody pokes around his finances or other intimate affairs, so it’s worth it.
* I don’t enter into debates of any sort with people who can’t beat me. I smile and try to change the subject.
You could easily find an accountant who shares your political viewpoints, especially in your part of the state. You could even cross the river and find someone who’d advise you on how much you’d save in taxes by moving states.

I really like this lady, though. I’m used to her, and she understands our complex situation. I’m fine with the political stuff. After all, it’s not like I don’t hear all that at work all day long. But I do get a little hot under the collar over COVID. On the positive side, it’s an opportunity to practice tolerance and self-control.

Being used to someone is not the same as liking someone. And I’m sure you can find accountants who are more in tune with you politically that understand your complex situation. You don’t pay your colleagues to provide professional services for you.
You could tell her you don’t appreciate any political or COVID talk before trying to find someone else.

Was pleasantly surprised to discover that some Russian bloggers not only read Zygmunt Bauman but enlighten me about his latest, previously unknown book ‘Retrotopia’:

The book is here on Amazon, have you read it?

How can you even ask? 🙂 Of course, I read Retrotopia. I don’t think I mentioned it on the blog because I didn’t want to bore everybody with even more Zygmunt Bauman.
Great book, like everything by him. Oh, I so wish he were alive. He’d have so much to say about the current moment.
But I’m really glad that Bauman is conquering even Russian-speaking spaces.

Bauman never bores me 🙂
Hope you’ll continue sharing good authors you discover which is one of the best features of your blog.
Lately, we’ve been talking 100% covid on the blog, on TV, on news sites … but you promised a review of some book to cliff. Hope it’ll lead to a new discovery of a great author.

I know but COVID posts are the only ones that reliably get tons of comments. I could practically publish an empty post titled “COVID,” and there would be a bunch of responses. I’m very fed up with it myself but that’s what people want.

By the way, el, I had a dream about you tonight. You had a daughter, a little girl, and you brought her over to introduce to me. She was so cute.
On another subject, if you are looking for something to read in Russian, I highly recommend the new novel by Мария Арбатова. It came out last week and is available on Google Books. It’s very good. I wouldn’t be the person I am, my husband wouldn’t be the man he is, and we wouldn’t be together without this writer. So I do recommend.

I don’t comment since have nothing more to say after sharing my position and am very tired of the topic.
