I know that the end to this blight people call summer is in sight when I get an invitation to the local pumpkin patch where apple cider donuts will be served while kids run around in a corn maze.
It’s mid-September, people. Haven’t I been tortured enough? I want rain, piercing cold wind, freezing temperatures, and to turn off the bloody AC.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m ready to let summer go even though I love warm weather. I tend to sleep better in winter and in summer I get these terrible insomnia stretches that seem to never this year. I’m so tired it can be winter already.

One good post re good vs evil linking to a post re community vs feminism you will like imo. You’ve once said you wouldn’t have been understood on Russian Internet space, so wanted to show there are some very bright people there too.

The Lancet published an article cautionary implying endless covid boosters may not be the best solution:
// Considerations in boosting COVID-19 vaccine immune responses
…
Although the benefits of primary COVID-19 vaccination clearly outweigh the risks, there could be risks if boosters are widely introduced too soon, or too frequently, especially with vaccines that can have immune-mediated side-effects (such as myocarditis, which is more common after the second dose of some mRNA vaccines,3 or Guillain-Barre syndrome, which has been associated with adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines4). If unnecessary boosting causes significant adverse reactions, there could be implications for vaccine acceptance that go beyond COVID-19 vaccines. Thus, widespread boosting should be undertaken only if there is clear evidence that it is appropriate.
…
Current evidence does not, therefore, appear to show a need for boosting in the general population, in which efficacy against severe disease remains high. Even if humoral immunity appears to wane, reductions in neutralising antibody titre do not necessarily predict reductions in vaccine efficacy over time, and reductions in vaccine efficacy against mild disease do not necessarily predict reductions in the (typically higher) efficacy against severe disease. This effect could be because protection against severe disease is mediated not only by antibody responses, which might be relatively short lived for some vaccines, but also by memory responses and cell-mediated immunity, which are generally longer lived.

Btw, in less than an hour Yom Kippur will enter my city. As Shabbat and other religious holidays, the exact time is different for various Israeli cities despite my country’s small size. Already the streets are quiet and there are almost zero cars. This evening in my (very secular for Israel) city the only cars will be rare ambulances, while children will bicycle in large numbers on roads instead of cars. It is the only day in the year in which one can take a long walk in the middle of any road. Decided to share the atmosphere and wish you
From wiki:
“Yom Kippur / Day of Atonement’ is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with a day-long fast and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services.
…
Yom Kippur is a legal holiday in the modern state of Israel. There are no radio or television broadcasts, airports are shut down, there is no public transportation, and all shops and businesses are closed.
In 2013, 73% of the Jewish people of Israel said that they were intending to fast on Yom Kippur.[30] It is very common in Israel to wish “Tsom Kal” ([an] easy fast) or “Tsom Mo’il” ([a] benefiting fast) to everyone before Yom Kippur, even if one does not know whether they will fast or not.
It is considered impolite to eat in public on Yom Kippur or to sound music or to drive a motor vehicle. There is no legal prohibition on any of these, but in practice such actions are almost universally avoided in Israel during Yom Kippur, except for emergency services.
Over the last few decades, bicycle-riding and inline skating on the empty streets have become common among secular Israeli youths, especially on the eve of Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv”
