Russian Hilton

For a moment of levity, I want to share the following true story. My husband is in Florida, staying at a Hilton hotel. He called me yesterday to ask how to fry fish. Since he never cooks, I asked what occasioned the inquiry at this particular juncture. He told me he brought a hot plate and a frying pan with him with a plan to cook his own meals in his hotel room.

It took me a while to explain why other guests of the Hilton wouldn’t be extraordinarily grateful for somebody frying fish inside the hotel. I suggested the exotic alternative if eating at a restaurant or getting a takeout but it didn’t fly.

He’s now planning to do a chicken stir fry on the hot plate instead.

  1. LEGAL ALERT!

Most American hotels including the Hilton chain DO NOT ALLOW guests to cook in their rooms because of fire safety concerns. N may get in legal trouble if he does so, and the hotel staff find out. I recommend that you advise him of this.

In Israeli hotels even smoking in a room is prohibited because of fire safety.

A fire alarm system would start working and a customer would be heavily fined.

      1. Smoking is definitely not allowed in the US hotels but N doesn’t smoke.

He’s the most stubborn person on the planet, and pretty much the only person I can’t convince of anything. Which is probably why we are together. My influence on him is exactly zero.

  2. Since it’s a light hearted thread, want to share the amazing discovery I made a few days ago about the nature of my own country. When I see articles about 101 genders and woke madness in the West, I sometimes feel a bit envious of Americans and Europeans who are so safe and sated that they start playing those weird games for new forms of entertainment. Turns out Israelis are also normal people, or shall we say ‘normal’ ? Look:

LGBTQ community in Israel faces ‘record’ discrimination

LGBTQ members claim to be neglected by the system, oftentimes being forced to wait an absurd amount of time for sex reassignment treatments and surgeries.

According to the report, the amount of Israelis who now define themselves as non-binary, or prefer not to define their gender at all, reached 23% this year, as opposed to only 12% in 2020.

See, life in Israel looks pretty good. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Oh, of course. He’s been like this for a long time. Totally paranoid. It’s gotten worse a couple of years ago but I do seem to remember that it was actually in 2019 that he started deteriorating into greater paranoia.

I might be mistaken on this one, though. So much has happened that I can’t say where I heard of his growing paranoia and when.
