What’s something most people don’t understand?
Themselves. Most people have a better understanding of quantum physics than of who they really are.
A good rule of thumb is this. When somebody says, “I’m the kind of person who”, whatever comes after “who” is the exact opposite of what they are like.
People who keep using the words “revolutionary” and “rebellious” are the biggest conformists in existence. People who keep harping on their laziness are the most hard-working bastards out there.
“I’m very cautious and distrustful” said recently an acquaintance who has fallen for more phone scams than I have hairs on my head. Self-awareness is the rarest of qualities.
It’s frustrating that when a friend has a personal problem, it’s so easy to see what’s going on, maybe even see the outlines of their psychological dysfunctions. But for oneself, no such insight.

Occasionally, God sends us someone who shares some of our most irritating faults, to force us in front of the mirror. It helps.

LOL! One of my sisters-in-law once claimed to be an “investigative sort of person” and I could only think, “Because you read people’s Facebook posts?” That was the kind of “research” she was talking about. I find her amazingly incurious. The only times I achieve any self-knowledge are when I observe what I actually do in analogous situations. Introspection is no help at all.

May be, it’s so when people describe themselves in a positive light to other people, but what when they define their negative qualities to themselves?
Imo, most people won’t list all their most negative character traits even to themselves in their heads, but the part they do know should be correct.

People tend to confess to the negative qualities they clearly don’t have to avoid noticing the ones they do.
