I’m not surprised. Readers aren’t created in college. They are created at home long before anybody reaches college age.
It’s getting harder to raise readers because reading requires a capacity for deep focus. We need to put in daily work to protect and develop our children’s capacity to focus. Not only does it ensure a much better quality of life, it’s also going to be the highest paid skill on the job market because it will be rare.

I agree completely. It is my prediction that by 2100 the majority of the population in the United States will be illiterate.
