Thank you for sharing! I haven’t seen this circle graph on the government spending

I’m not making a value judgement on whether the US should give aid or not, but this line of argument is flawed in my opinion. 0.6% of the federal spending in the biggest economy on the planet is an incredibly large number. And I don’t get the point of the pie chart. Of course this slice is going to be smaller than the slices corresponding to the essential functions of the government. Was anyone really expecting their sizes to be comparable?

It’s an incredibly large number to do what? Destroy the army of the largest self-declared foe America has had in a century? Actually, it looks like an absolute darn bargain.

As for the point of the chart, it was posted in response to Richard Hanania who declared yesterday that 40% of the entire US GDP goes to Ukraine. You’d be stunned at how many people are utterly unaware of the actual number and think it’s orders of magnitude larger than it is.

Richard Hanania has the Ukrainian war confused with World War II. That was the only war whose cost came anywhere near 40% of US GDP.

He probably thinks WWII costs were 4,000% of the GDP.

The only time the percentage of US GDP going to war came remotely close to 40% was during World War II.
