Nutty in Canada

Canada is far, far gone:

18 months of lockdowns where people were badgered by loudspeakers all day to stay inside and then the nutty campaign about the imaginary indigenous children murdered by the Catholic Church – all this turned people’s brains inside out.

  1. Regarding this story of a burned child in the oven, this particular one may be a fake. I read it on Russian lj and then checked Israeli Hebrew sources. One website “FakeReporter” asks not to spread it since anything w/o evidence only helps Hamas.

Unfortunately, there are enough real murders, including of babies.

    Great news:

The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security agency say a soldier captured by the Hamas terror group has been rescued from the Gaza Strip in an overnight operation.

Cpl. Ori Megidish is in good condition, and has met with her family.

Megidish was an observation soldier, taken hostage by Hamas when terrorists stormed the Nahal Oz base on October 7.

  5. I linked to a short post about Shani Louk since she became one of the symbols of the attack worldwide. May be, she’ll be mentioned in the talk.

Now read that Hamas forces foreign nationals, including Americans, to remain in Gaza till its demands are met. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters: “Hamas is making a number of demands before they’ll allow people to leave Gaza … Just as we believe they ought to release all hostages they are holding, we believe they ought to … let leave all the American citizens and other foreign nationals who are being basically forced to remain in Gaza against their will because Hamas won’t uphold its responsibility to operate its side of the Rafah crossing.”

The lj user I linked to about Shani wrote a few interesting imo posts. For instance, how our government supported (not) kibbutzim near the Gaza Strip (1000 shekels = 247 dollars):

Or about our female soldiers vs female representation in Israeli politics (29 women out of 120 Knesset members, while in the currently ruling coalition 9 women out of 64 members, meaning 14%) :

The state: that the vision of Prime Minister Sharon established in 2005. Today our nation conducts our national strategic interests as a ‘great nation’; we fight a regime change war to remove Hamas as the government of the Israeli established Gaza Palestinian State.

Antisemites scream and fight & denounce that Israel should transform our tiny nation of the Middle East unto a ‘great power’ in the community of World nation states. This war compares to a Bar Mitzva celebration of joy.

Netanyahu rejects calls for ceasefire and resignation as he calls war against Hamas ‘battle of civilization against barbarians’

TEL AVIV (JTA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza increases the chance that hostages will be freed, and rejected calls for a ceasefire in the country’s war against Hamas, which he called “a battle of civilization against barbarians.”

In a statement Monday evening followed by a brief question-and-answer period with foreign reporters, Netanyahu also blamed the war’s mounting death toll on Hamas, the terror group that governs the Gaza Strip. And he said he would not resign despite dismal poll numbers.

“I want to make clear Israel’s position regarding the ceasefire: Just as the United States would not agree to a ceasefire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or after the terrorist attack of 9-11, Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific attacks of Oct. 7,” Netanyahu said at the press conference at the Israel Defense Forces’ headquarters in Tel Aviv. “Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism.”

The press conference occurred days after the Israel Defense Forces expanded a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip following Hamas’ Oct. 7 invasion of Israel, which killed 1,400 and wounded thousands. Hamas terrorists also took some 240 captives in the invasion.

Israel subsequently declared war on Hamas, and the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says Israeli strikes have killed more than 8,000 people. Hamas has also shot thousands of rockets at cities across Israel.

In response to a question about the civilian death toll in Gaza, Netanyahu claimed that “not a single civilian has to die.” He said Hamas is responsible for civilian casualties in Gaza because it fires at Israel and has its command centers in civilian areas, and prevents civilians from fleeing. He added that Israel told residents of the northern Gaza Strip to evacuate to the southeastern part of the territory, where he said there is a “safe zone.” There have been IDF airstrikes in southern Gaza as well.

“Hamas is preventing them from leaving, keeping them in the areas of conflict,” Netanyahu said. “We’re going out of our way to prevent civilian casualties, not only by asking civilians to move, calling them to move, arranging a place for them to be, which is safe — also putting in humanitarian support.”

He added however, that “even the most just war” leads to the death of innocent civilians, citing the case of a British warplane that targeted the Gestapo headquarters in Copenhagen during World War II but accidentally struck a school, killing children. (Netanyahu inaccurately stated that the plane accidentally hit a children’s hospital.)

Domestically, Netanyahu is facing pressure from families of those taken hostage by Hamas to agree to a large-scale prisoner exchange to secure their freedom. He said on Monday that he and the rest of Israel’s leadership believes that the ground invasion may push Hamas to free the hostages. Israeli forces rescued one hostage soldier on Sunday, and Hamas has released four others. More than 200 remain.

“The ground action actually creates the possibility, not the certainty, but the possibility of actually getting our hostages out,” he said. “Hamas will not do it unless they’re under pressure. They simply will not do it. They only do it under pressure. This creates pressure.”

Wearing a long sleeve black button-down shirt — his standard attire in public appearances since Oct. 7 — Netanyahu also addressed a question regarding calls for his resignation. A majority of Israelis, according to a recent poll, want him to resign after the war, while another poll showed that, in a head-to-head matchup with centrist Benny Gantz, only 28% believe Netanyahu is the best person to lead the country .

He also received flak for a recent social media post, which he later deleted and apologized for, that placed blame for the Oct. 7 massacre on Israel’s military and intelligence chiefs.

“The only thing I intend to have resigned is Hamas,” he said. “We’re going to resign them to the dustbin of history. That’s my goal, that’s my responsibility and that’s what I’m leading the country to do.”

  7. Egypt is moving closer to Hamas and Iran as the result of Israeli pressure to accept Palestinians in Sinai:

// Israel has approached international leaders, seeking their help in persuading Egypt

One proposal suggests that the World Bank could forgive a significant part of Egypt’s debt in return for accepting the refugees. Egypt is concerned about the potential influx of refugees attempting to breach the Rafah border. Another suggestion on the table is to transport injured Palestinians via ships and set up a field hospital in Egypt.

Egypt has invited Hamas for a meeting in Cairo … invitations will also be extended to leaders of other Palestinian factions, such as Islamic Jihad.

“Currently, there are high-level engagements between Cairo and Tehran due to the crisis in Gaza. Egypt realized it needs to broaden its alliances to cope with American and Israeli pressures on relocating Gazans to Sinai.”

But then again, we have this one Palestinian professor and he’s giving a talk, preparing reading lists. And tons of Jewish professors who have done absolutely nothing to speak about Israel. So it ends up being very one-sided.

And the speaker says, “well, it’s impossible to say who’s originally from where. Palestinians are indigenous to Palestine, that’s what I know.”

Then a BLM activist in the audience pipes up to say that Jews are originally from Egypt because there’s something about that in the Bible.

Then an Egyptian guy pipes up to say that “We in Egypt don’t want them either”.

Hamas was mentioned once by the BLM activist to explain that it’s very much loved by Palestinians because it provides childcare. That’s it. That’s all people heard about Hamas. It provides childcare.

          The rest was much worse.

  10. Here how Hamas views Palestinians – doesn’t look like a government to me (look at bolded parts):

// Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk said that the tunnels built by Hamas are meant to protect and hold terrorists, and not civilians, in an interview that was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

“We have built the tunnels because we have no other way of protecting ourselves from being targeted and killed,” he claimed. “These tunnels are meant to protect us from airplanes. We are fighting inside the tunnels.”

Marzouk’s statements were in response to questions about why Hamas constructed over 500 kilometers of tunnels, according to the interviewer, and have not invested that effort into constructing bomb shelters.

“Everybody knows that 75% of the people in the Gaza Strip are refugees, and it is the responsibility of the United Nations to protect them,” he continued.

“According to the Geneva Conventions, it is the responsibility of the occupation to provide them with all the services as long as they are under occupation.”

I bet he didn’t describe what will happen to all of us Israeli Jews when the state is destroyed OR who will destroy Israel exactly. Meekly suffering Palestinians? Iran with its atom bomb? Allah himself by religious miracle?

Hamas leader Isamil Haniyeh called in an Oct. 26 address for the “free people of the world” to stop the bombing of Gaza, which he referred to as the “new Holocaust.”

In the address, which was broadcast by Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen television, the Hamas leader said, “The blood of the women, children and elderly […] we are the ones who need this blood, so it awakens within us the revolutionary spirit, so it awakens with us resolve,” said Haniyeh.

Israel’s demise is “inevitable,” said Haniyeh, and therefore preparations must be made for the “post-occupation” phase.

Haniyeh, together with his family, left Gaza some two years ago. They now are believed to reside in Doha, Qatar, along with other senior Hamas figures.
