Milei won in Argentina.

This is amazing. Argentina is a country that deserves better, and now it has a chance.

It’s been a very long time since anybody heard anything remotely resembling hopeful news from South America. Coupled with the nationalist protests in Spain, this is a good moment for the Hispanic world.

    Milei… the crazy-hair guy? That’ll be fun.

Milei is more neoliberal than neoliberalism. I do not share your enthusiasm.

Who’s a better option in South America? Gustavo Petro who adores Putin? The Peruvian guy who’s an FSB agent? Maduro? Lula?

This guy, at least, has his own point of view. For a Latin American leader to dare to be openly pro-Ukrainian is a minor miracle.

I get your point. It is also “refreshing,” I guess, to leave aside Peronism for a change. But I simply do not see how opposing Milei to Petro or Boric through some sort of left-right axis constitutes strong grounds for celebration.

But yes, the situation in Argentina has been shitty for years. I understand why people are looking for radical alternatives. I am just not optimistic at all about this one.
