That’s… weirdly ineffective for a terrorist attack. I wonder if the border crossing was not their intended target, and if so where they were actually headed with all that explosive?

Additional video looks like maybe just somebody trying to gate-crash (or driving under the influence) at high speeds, and getting into a very very bad wreck.

Yes, statements from witnesses suggest this, too—apparently the car swerved to avoid another car, ran into a rail at high speed, clipped a checkpoint building and flipped before bursting into flames and then exploding in midair. The two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, and one border patrol agent was injured but not badly.
