God, these people are losers. We are stuck with geriatric presidential candidates because Gen-X politicians are mega cringe. They want to get together and debate regressive sales taxes.
I also heard that they dedicated a chunk of time to debating COVID death counts.
I wonder how many people watched this snoozefest.

People aren’t persuadable anymore. The desperation to feel connected to at least a semblance of purpose makes them choose signaling group allegiance over even just the basic information intake.

Sigh. I like DeSantis as guv. He’s better than most on state issues. Not perfect, but this is politics and you take what you can get.
But I just did the accounts for November, and we spent ~$450 more than our take-home pay. Only $220 of that was Christmas presents, and that was after the whole month trying really really hard to keep expenses clamped down. I know where every cent went, and I was really proud of myself for keeping the grocery tab at $452 for our family of 5 (even with Thanksgiving at my house!), and we got the electric bill down to $53! I’ve identified a few things I can still cut from the budget, but not $200+ worth.
We are earning more money now than at any previous point in our marriage. Three years ago, with less money, we were able to stay within our monthly income. We’re still not in the hole, because our monthly overage is excavating the tax return we banked at the beginning of the year. But it’s seriously demoralizing, and God help us if we were living paycheck-to-paycheck.
Any politician who gets on a national stage, and fails to address inflation, the fact that the bottom 80% can no longer afford to buy a home, and exploitative rental pricing, should be booed out of the building. They’re part of the problem. Everybody getting up on stage should be required to disclose all their real-estate investments, and those should be displayed on a large screen behind them while they talk.

I read yesterday that an average family spends $11,000 more a year than before the inflation, which means around $14,000 before taxes. I make about that amount with my translations that I started in 2022. The inflation is eating that entire additional income. I’m not putting anything aside out of it. I need all that money just to stay within the pre-translation expenses. So when people say that there’s no inflation or that it’s not a big deal, I feel gaslit. It is a very big deal, and for many people it’s absolutely crushing.
