N gave me a present of a signed book by a Spanish author I like just as I was eating fried potatoes (not to be confused with the evil concoction called “fries”) and egg. I experienced a huge inner conflict.

    I don’t get it: he’s being lovely and appreciative towards you, and totally understanding of your deep love for literature, why are you torn?

      The choice: Look at the book while eating and get it all gross with random table scraps or stop eating (!) potatoes (!!!) and clean hands and look at the book.

      I feel the pain an always opt for the first so lots of my books are kind of gross….
