I’d think the reviewer was taking the piss, to be honest. Adults normally don’t require this level of gushing. Even my second grader would be weirded out if I reacted like this to a project of hers.

The best 1st comment in the new year is recommending a good book. 🙂
Loaned for my mother and she loved the novel:
“Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus
Wiki says it is her debut novel, published in 2022, despite the author being born in 1957. I always thought good authors had to start publishing at younger age.
Saw a post re the book and TV series based on it (seems like the novel is much better):
Уроки химии – книга + экранизация

I have reviewed seven gazillion papers in my time. Only once or twice has it happened that I read the initial submission and thought, “This is brilliant. It can be published as is.” There is always something to improve.

If I got something like that as a response, I’d not take it personally at all and would not think it is truly brilliant, I’d just suspect that the reviewer was showing a middle finger to the publisher.
