Selling a Feeling

From a really good analysis of why the DeSantis campaign failed:

While the [DeSantis] campaign’s issue set, record, and candidate all looked pristine on paper, the effort to convert them into a winning presidential run overlooked how normal people think. DeSantis was selling a plan; Trump was selling a feeling. That doesn’t make Trump’s pitch less legitimate.

This is very true. The Biden campaign is also selling a feeling. It’s selling the feeling of outrage about Trump. I can’t think of a single thing that the Biden campaign is promising to accomplish. There might be stuff but it’s not getting across even to an exceptionally politicized person like me.

  1. Let’s do the MBTI thing for the LOLZ: Trump is an ESTP, DeSantis is an INTJ.

So DeSantis thought that people would like the way he can come up with solid plans … and yes, that’s great, and maybe DeSantis can get back to Florida to do some of that.

But the two types for which plans like that are Super Hawt (LOL) are INTJs and INFJs.

INFJs mostly from the perspective of, “Oh, look, you actually made a plan big enough that nobody will try to make the tent bigger, that’s so thoughtful!”

So from the perspective of no more than about 4% of the population, that’s a total banger.

As for the other 96%, they like having that itch scratched.

Even if it’s the Daniel Craig as James Bond 007 way. 🙂

And so here are the candidates for you …

Biden is about the good feelings for Progressives who get off by making the tent bigger. (Even though it’s mostly bullshit territory marking.)

DeSantis was about making plans so big that everyone fit in them. (In part without regard about how they would feel about that.)

Trump has brought his entire entourage of carnival clowns with him in order to set fire to the tent while they’re still in it, then doing a big reveal of a Yuge Glorious Wall(TM) that nobody expected to appear out of the smoke and flame as if Penn & Teller were consulted. (And that’s about a 50/50 chance.)

I can do some of the other candidates but I generally don’t have nice things to say about them.

For example: “I GO BY MICHAEL.”

If you’ve seen that movie, you’ll probably get which one it is. 🙂

BTW, INFJ Confrontational Tactic: “Is this your personal Dorian Grey painting? It’s utterly fascinating, let me tell you a few things about it so you can learn more about yourself!”

And you thought other INTJs were bad, just wait until an INFJ decides it’s the shortest path to implementing change to become the President.

All of the ESTPs will fall in love with the INFJ deep connections, of course.

    Then they’re utterly doomed. 🙂
