JK Rowling is single-handedly destroying Scotland’s new anti-speech law, and it’s beautiful.
Do we have any artists in the US who would – or, rather, will – do this when this comes to us? We’ve got Chris Rufo but are there any celebrities? I can’t think of anybody who wouldn’t immediately weasel out but maybe there is somebody I’m forgetting.
I may be living in a bubble, but the calibers of Rawling and Rufo are so vastly different (at least from the viewpoint of public influence)… If I were not reading your blog I’d probably not know anything whatsoever about Rufo…
You need Beyonce or Taylor Swift…

That’s my whole point, though. Rufo is great but do we have anybody remotely as recognizable and universally adored as JKR to stand up for us?
It’s probably got to be a writer, too, because it needs to be a person who can express herself in a complete sentence.

Rihanna did some control damage regarding her views on gender inclusivity and it was a great internet moment. That says everything…
Very few people are as untouchable as J.K. Rowling, because of the nature of the success she has enjoyed so far. She fashioned popular culture and youth culture in such a profound way in the 21st-century that she is not cancellable.

Well neither is as adored as JKR, but Scott Adams has stood by his convictions admirably and hasn’t apologized despite his popular comic being cancelled, and Elon Musk is a visible celebrity who hasn’t backed down on trans issues and even offers to help cancelled people, as JKR does.

One of Elon Musk’s abandoned children transed himself. Anything that Musk has to say about this rings very hollow.
Who’s Scott Adams? Is it the dude with the juvenile wife? Or somebody else?

Scott Adams, before he became an unperson, was known for the daily newspaper comic strip Dilbert which was about the absurdities of the modern workplace, especially the pain of being micro-managed by an idiot (his boss).
It was very big culturally.

OK, I looked him up, and yes, he’s the dude with the juvenile wife whom he already divorced. He’s also one of those lisping Russia shills that are dime a dozen and all equally pouty and boring.
I wish he just went back to the child bride.
