Gay men are finally joining the fight against the new gay conversion therapy of genderism. A new book by Gareth Roberts titled Gay Shame: The Rise of Gender Ideology and the New Homophobia is out this week, and those who already read it say it’s funny and on point. Here’s a little snippet I saw on social media:

Lesbians have been in the fight for years but gay men were silent, not as individuals but as a public voice and a political force. But it’s finally changing, and that’s great. We need their talent, humor, and rage to bring us all back to sanity.

    I myself am pessimistic about this group’s entry into the fray. Of course, plenty of gay men as individuals have intelligent and substantial objections to this stuff. But as a political class, i.e. gay men responding as gay men, the greatest objection seems to be that they might see someone they’re unattracted to on Grindr or in a bath house. Quel horreur! It’s an embarrassing contrast when lesbians tend to be focused on issues of substance.

      I agree that it’s a bit like pulling teeth with this constituency. I think it’s the AIDS trauma that is making people want to hide in hedonistic pursuits from anything heavy. But at this point I’ll take anything. Biden destroyed Title IX this week and made “pronouns” a civil rights violation. Things are coming down to the wire.

        I thought it was just the usual “doesn’t affect me so why do I care” thing. I mean, lesbians saw the threat from the beginning, because they immediately had straight men in dresses trying to infiltrate their bars and clubs, and whingeing about how lesbians wouldn’t f**k them. They’re also a non-trivial chunk of women’s sports, for which the trans juggernaut is an existential threat. I hear Martina Navratilova has been sounding the alarm on this for some time.

        Gay men didn’t really have that problem.

        Now that some time has passed, and we’re seeing what these drugs and surgeries actually *do* to people, and who it’s being done to, they have more reasons to care:

        1. generously, because they can finally see that *that could have been me*– that showing any effeminacy or SSA in childhood or adolescence these days is an easy ticket to the eunuch factory and the only reason it didn’t happen to them is they were born 10, 20, 30 years too early.
        2. ungenerously, because they see the future supply of nubile young SSA men getting diverted into a side-channel that’ll make them flabby, ugly, and sexually nonfunctional. And then where will they find a hot date?

        If you go back to the 60s and 70s, you see similar differences between political lesbians and political gay men (I’m not speaking about the trans issue specifically, obviously, but broader political outlook.) Even before AIDS, political lesbians were often focused on feminism, critiquing the sexual revolution, etc., while political gay men were expressing their solidarity with NAMBLA and saying dumb shit like “gay men should wear their sexually transmitted diseases like red badges of courage in a war against a sex-negative society” (this is a real quote, I’m not making it up.)

        This passage from Andrea Dworkin about an altercation she had with Allen Ginsberg is a beautiful illustration of the vast gulf between the two camps (this incident would’ve happened in 1982, but Ginsberg had been a major figure in the gay left since the 50s.)

          Incidentally, this is why I’m irritated when gay men want to act like everything was hunky dory within gay activism until 2015 or so when trans activism started really picking up steam. By all means, criticize the evils of that movement loudly and publicly. But don’t act like gay activism hasn’t been foul for the majority of its existence (it’s debatable whether there’s any point when this was not true.)
