“I’m putting money into a college fund for when you go to Yale,” I explain to Klara.
“I’m not going to Yale,” she says coolly.
“Where then? Harvard?” I quip.
“I’m going to the University of”Wherever-My-BFF-Goes”,” she responds.

My kid is extremely loyal. She’s attached herself to this friend in kindergarten and will not abandon her even when the friend abandons her. It’s extraordinary to watch.
No, I don’t see any need of IQ testing or any other testing. All I care is that she’s psychologically healthy, not suffering from anxiety, resilient and independent. That is something I can impact and it’s worth any number of IQ points or pretty much anything else besides physical health.

I did a whole battery of IQ tests at that age. Not because it was needed, but because one of my mom’s teacher friends was in training to administer the tests, and needed guinea pigs. I have no idea what my score was, because she felt that kids knowing their scores and attributing too much meaning to them would be damaging to them. What matters is how you perform IRL, which is heavily tied to work ethic and personal integrity.
I think she was right.
