Q&A about Emigration

What is it with excellent questions these days? Every question I receive is a joy to answer. Here’s today’s:

If moving house is considered major life trauma, imagine moving countries. The first one, I was very young, so I mostly recovered fast. The second one, though, I was already 27, so it hit me hard. Took years to get over it. It’s like everything in your life is playing off-key. The feeling is disorienting, and it undermines everything you know about yourself.

It’s impossible to imagine what I would have put in the place that’s currently occupied with the Spanish-related stuff. I would have found something but what? Something psychology-related, maybe. I definitely would not have been an academic. I would have moved to a different region within the country because if I were to stay, I would have wanted to live as a Ukrainian, and back then it wasn’t possible in my very borderland city. I would have probably gone completely Ukrainian-speaking. I was massively nationalist in my early twenties, in case people don’t know.

I keep thinking about this, and I find it infinitely entertaining to imagine the version of myself that never heard the word “nation-state”, never read Rafael Chirbes, and has no opinions about wokeness.

  1. Good news this morning:

IDF frees four hostages from Gaza captivity in high-stakes rescue operation

from the densely populated Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza

The four, kidnapped from the Nova festival during the October 7 massacre, are Noa Argamani, 25, Andrey Kozlov, 27, Almog Meir Jan, 21, and Shlomi Ziv, 40. All are reported to be in good health

Argamani became a symbol of Hamas’ brutality after a video documenting her abduction from the Nova music festival site and her capture alongside her partner Avinatan Or went viral. The clip showed Argamani being forcibly taken on a motorcycle, weeping and screaming, while her partner was roughly handled by terrorists.

I published their ages since Hamas released 70+ olds during the latest prisoner exchange.

    And bad news:

United Nations puts Israel on blacklist of countries harming children in conflict zones

The report’s source is UN agencies and personnel on site, but Israel has criticized the UN before for relying on Palestinian figures. According to the Palestinians, even 18-year-old terrorists are counted as children and Palestinian victims, a categorization that Israel vehemently disputes.

    This despite
Gaza women and children killed less frequently as war toll rises, analysis finds

    1. UN is an absolute joke. I’m disgusted with their behavior throughout the war in Ukraine. The US should withdraw all funding from this stupid organization.

Incredible news about the hostages. What joy! And profound admiration for IDF.

      1. UN shows itself to be as impartially blindfolded as Lady Justice itself:

“Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad were also added to the list, according to a diplomatic source, along with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).”

Meaning, before 2024, Hamas was not blacklisted.

  2. Very interesting answer! But this quality is something I have come to expect from you. You are a very self-aware and intelligent person.

Now, please, help me to find the link for asking anonymous questions. I’ve used it before but can’t seem to find it again.
