What is it with this campaign?
Few things are as moronic as the idea that policy can be plagiarized. If I’m for free speech, am I plagiarizing everybody before me who said they are for it?
The worst part is that the policy itself is stupid. There’s no reason to exempt a specific category of earnings from taxes. It’s all silly, inane pandering.

No, but if you’re sitting in the chair with the keys to unlock this wonderful [free speech] right now then why aren’t you doing it? Because you don’t have any integrity. That’s why. And that’s a special kind of pandering: the snake oil kind.
Besides, we already concede special tax exceptions for food and drink (at least at state and local levels), so why can’t some be made for different types of labor or earnings?
Owners and managers could reduce their operating liabilities with a (mostly) tip wage model for servers. Servers get paid for being a great server rather than a warm body who’s “owed” a tip. Great servers will be in high demand and can garner a better base pay. Not a universal solution but I bet it would drive the restaurant experience through the roof in many places. Either way it has the appeal of a tax cut for us common folk.
Maybe I’m too naive but I’d rather see someone aspire to be great at something rather aspire to do the bare minimum. Perhaps this is your experience as a professor?

…and sorry if I wasn’t clear, I’m not accusing Clarissa of being without integrity; I was only speaking abstractly of the type of person who would be comfortable pandering in that way.
